Here in Florida, we have no shortage of swimming pools, beaches and lakesides where we can host events. There’s nothing quite as fun as hanging out waterside with cocktails and co-workers on a balmy evening! If you’re considering a waterside event, here are some tips to make it fabulous:
- Use the water as a décor element. If you’re poolside, for example, ask your décor company to float colored luminaries in the water, like we did in the photo here. Just make sure to find out if the circulator will be on; if so, you’ll need to have the luminaries weighted so they don’t all float to one end of the pool.
- Have the servers butler-pass fun and colorful cocktails suited to the scenery. This will alleviate a long line at the bar and is a great conversation piece.
- Serve light fare. Work with your caterer to design a menu that won’t weigh your guests down. Emphasize seafood and vegetarian options.
- Add some fun entertainment. Steel drum bands, fire jugglers (if your venue permits) and stilt walkers are just a few ideas we’ve used in the past.
By incorporating an existing scenic element like water into your event’s décor, you inherently save money on additional design items.
